Marquis + Phillips Roogle Riesling `08 $14.99 (not TJ's) **

I can't give every wine three stars.  That seems like all I have been doing lately. Of course, I have upped my game by moving, and I am no longer the person purchasing all of the wine.  It isn't a run to TJ's with a hit or miss grab to fill the box anymore, and the average price per bottle has gone up.  But, I need to be true to my undereducated palate.

This Riesling from South Australia is crisp, on first sip, there is a brief hint of sweetness - like a fresh -  almost over ripe honeydew then there is a predominant grapefruit taste and finally I got a distinct taste of petroleum. Maybe my taste buds just aren't geared to the flavor profile. It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't a bottle I'd ever be bothered to look for. I didn't stop at one glass - so it wasn't undrinkable.

Cute bottle BTW.  Nice graphics.  This screw top wine (I am a fan of screw top wine) was perfectly drinkable with our dinner of comfort food.  Ham steak, macaroni & cheese and Broccoli a la Romana (broccoli with garlic, olive oil and hot pepper flakes). Dessert was a square of Perugina bittersweet chocolate, and a sip of cognac.
