Bedell First Crush White `09 (not tj's) $18.00 **

It was at a nostalgic stop at their tasting room when I first tasted this crisp white from Bedell Cellars Winery on the North Fork of Long Island.  Out of sentiment, I bought two bottles.  It is a fragrant, crisp, citrusy white with highlights of grapefruit. (their notes say starfruit, but I detect a sour/tartness of grapefruit).  80% Chardonnay and 20% Sauvignon Blanc fermented in steel with no oak makes this a very clean wine.  But for $18.00 a bottle, it really isn't my first or second choice for a summer table wine.  In fairness, here is what Bedell has to say about this wine: "very bright and floral, with vibrant aromas of apples, honeydew melon, citrus flavors and mouth-watering acidity."

We had it with Lobster Pasta Sauce Busara-Style from Marcella Cucina, by Marcella Hazan, and a fresh Caprese Salad. When a certain someone sipped the wine, they said "This reminds me of the Sutter Home" - shudder, it wasn't THAT bad, but for $18.00 it could have been oh so much better.

As for the Lobster Pasta Sauce Busara-Style?  Amazing.
