Campo Viejo Tempranillo Reserva `05 $17.99 (Nt TJ's) ***

The scent of pork butt braising in fennel and aromatics makes my mouth water. There is just something about it.  When I wandered into the kitchen, JPH uncorked this bottle.  I grabbed the truffled almonds from the cabinet and the night began.

Maybe it is the pairing.  Maybe it is the fact that this is a BIG, chocolaty, plummy wine that has an undertone of leather.  Maybe because it is so complex yet easy to drink.  Maybe because well seasoned Pork and Tempranillo just work together - or all of the above.

Campo Viejo = old field (with a flashy website). I just want to say thank you to the Spaniards who make this wine and continue to produce those complex, robust flavors that just make me happy. This wine is a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo (also known as Carignan).

I'll leave you with a picture of my dinner:
Slow roasted pork and roasted potatoes.
(at some point, the bread and salad made it to my plate,
but by then, I had forgotten all about pictures!)
